Export Gedcom File (GFT) Gramps Family Tree

Introduction

Gramps is a free open-source genealogy program that will upload GEDCOM and Media files as described in the Migration Guide below. Visit Gramps for product details.

Most Multimedia Conversion modes are supported, but the Local Media Object modes are best.

The Character Set Encoding defaults to UTF-8 with all Unicode characters supported.

The [[private]] Text Option defaults to Include private text but remove the [[ ]].

The Rich Text Formatting defaults to Remove rich text codes leaving just plain text.

Migration Guide

After running the FH Plugin open the Gramps program.

Use File > New to Create New Family File and choose an AQ filename matching the FH Project.

Use Family Trees > Manage Family Trees… and New button to create an empty tree, then Load Family Tree.

Use Family Trees > Import… and choose the FH Plugin Export folder and the Project … GFT UTF8.ged file to import then click Import.

The GEDCOM Import Report may report Tag recognized but not supported with Skipped subordinate line and those can be ignored.

(GFT+) Full Data Export Details

All the (Str) Full Data Standard GEDCOM Release 5.5.1 rules apply except as defined below.

Individual & Family Records (INDI, FAM)

★ Name Fields (GIVN, SPFX, SURN)
Some standard Individual Name fields are moved to a labelled Record local Note otherwise they upset the name:

See Other Options tab Surname Prefix 2 SPFX: that goes to a Surname Prefix: label.
See Other Options tab Surname 2 SURN: that is moved in to a Surname: label.

★ Phonetic Name, Romanised Name (FONE, ROMN)
Any Phonetic Name or Romanised Name is converted to a Record local Note with a Phonetic: or Romanised: label.

★ Standard Attributes (CAST, DSCR, IDNO, NATI, MCHI, SSN)
These standard Attributes have most subsidiary fields moved to their local Note with a suitable label.

★ Custom Attribute (_ATTR, FACT)

Each custom Attribute has most subsidiary fields moved to their local Note with a suitable label.

★ Witness Role (_SHAR, _SHAN, ROLE)
See Extra Options tab Witness Role 2 _SHA%u:
Each _SHAR or _SHAN tag is changed to _WITN and the subsidiary ROLE tag changed to TYPE.

Source Records (SOUR)

★ Source Record (ABBR, PUBL, TEXT, _TYPE)
Each Source Record Short Title (ABBR) is converted to a full TITLe, unless that already exists, whereupon it is converted to a Record local Note with a Short Title: label.

Repository & Submitter Records (REPO, SUBM)

★ Record Fax Number (FAX)

Each Fax number is appended to the Phone (PHON) field.

Custom Id, Automated Id, Date Field (REFN, RIN, DATE)

★ Custom Id, Automated Id (REFN, RIN)
Each Note, Repository & Research Note record Custom Id and Automated Id is moved to the record Note with a Custom Id: or Automated Id: label.

★ Date Field (DATE)
See Extra Options tab Date Field %d DATE:
Each single Date field FROM or TO is converted AFT or BEF and any Interpreted Date Phrase is moved to the local Note with just the actual Date retained.
