Add a General Record Office Source and optionally Event

This plugin speeds up the entry of information from the UK Birth Marriage and Death indexes. It assumes you use a single source for all events from the indexes and can then create an event and add a citation to that source.

On first run for each Project the GRO Index Source will be prompted for.

It then prompts for the GRO reference details and the record to be updated, it will default to the current Individual for Birth and Death, the current Family record for the Marriage.

If there is no event it will create one and update the date and place if they are blank. It will then add a source citation for the Event.

V1.1 Prevent error when used with standalone gedcom. Settings will not be saved in standalone mode.
1.2 Fixes for V6
1.3 Added support for 3 sources, it now also adds “Registration District” to the Address on created Facts and prompts for the full Placename to use when creating an event.

  1. This would be more flexible if it catered for three sources — one each for Births, for Marriages and for Deaths — which of course could all be the same.

  2. I agree that this would be better if it could use three different sources.

I’m unable to make it work because after I enter all the information and try to apply it, I get the error message: calico pie\family historian\Add GRO Source.fh_lua:74:Invalid Argument, No changes have been made to data records.
  3. You can have three different sources, one for each if you:

    1.  Create three sources one for each of BMD and remember their source number.
    2.  When you run the Plug in you are prompted firstly to pick a source .
    3.  When running for a second a subsequent time you can change the source number in the top of the box appropriate tot he index you want to use.

  4. This is such a useful plug in but I was wondering how complicated it would be to edit it to add the citation as secondary evidence with today’s date as at the moment I have to remember to manually do this each time.
