Check for Possible Duplicate Media

This plugin checks all the media records in your project and compares the files linked to them looking for files which are identical it will pick up both records which are linked to the same file and to those where the names are different, but the contents are the same.

When complete it returns a result set containing the matching records.

By selecting each pair in turn, just drag over both cells, you can then select Edit>Merge Compare Records from the menu and merge the records together.

Once the process is complete, it is recommended to use the “Check for Unlinked Media” plugin to clean up any duplicate files.

N.B This does not handle non Latin (Unicode) file names or large files such as video, so if  you make use of these please look at Check for Possible Duplicated Media

  1. A “Must have” for me.

Found files that I had not realised were duplicates as well as the obvious duplicated census files.
The non obvious files were files I had wrongly saved by choosing the wrong file to link in the first place.
So even attached to different people, with different file names, the plugin still correctly found identical images.
  2. Is this plugin going to be updated for V7 in the future?
At present it produces an error c:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugins\md5.lua:8: attempt to call a nil value (global ‘module’). No changes have been made to data records.

    • As the moment the MD5 library needed for this is not working in V7. When this is fixed it should be possible to move it up.

  3. I had used version V1.3 of this Plugin but since I downloaded and installed V2.1 it returns a list of all Media with the message ‘File Missing:’ No duplicates are shown though I know there are many.
I notice that it produced this list instantly, whereas V1.3 took some time to search through the Media files.

  4. Hi,
Using windows 10 & FH 7.0.7, downloaded V2.2 today and on running returns same error as Robin reported on 7th Jan

c:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugins\md5.lua:8: attempt to call a nil value (global ‘module’). No changes have been made to data records.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Tony
