Timeline Chart

Creates a web page containing a timeline to display the events of persons life.

Can either create a temporary page to see the currently selected person, or can select a group of people and create a whole set of pages for use on a web site.

Uses SIMILE Widgets to display the time line which requires an active internet connection to operate, also due to restrictions in the security settings the pages will not work correctly in Chrome, which prevents downloaded applets from loading local files (when loaded on a web site Chrome will work).

Note: Exported Time lines will not display if stored locally on modern browsers,  but will work when placed on a web server, due to security options.

  1. I am using FH V5 and have tried to use your Timeline plugin, unfortunately I am having issues.

    1. Using both Chrome and IE9 the generated html will display the timeline background with the timespan indicated but in neither case does it apply the events onto the timeline itself.
    2. When I look at the html code, line 62 calls for “test.xml” which are the events I understand. By changing this file name to the corresponding mapI<number>.xml then the events will appear in IE9 but sadly still not in Chrome.
    3. I suspect this is a security issue as I identified where to look when IE9 told me it could not load “test.xml” after allowing ‘Blocked info’.
Hope this helps in resolving the issues.  Many Thanks
  2. Downloaded this plugin today (20th April 2012) and I would recommend it.  Works great creating a temp. page and on Firefox.

  3. Great idea that works well but could be improved if dates cascaded down in date order  – it would make the page longer but would solve the problem I found where twins obviously born on same day one appeared at top and one at bottom of page. Does that make sense?
Also would be good to plug in national, local or international events that occurred during their lifetime
Love how children death is included as this would have a big impact on an individual but could the wedding of a child be included too as this is also a big event for a parent!!
hope this helps thanks for great plug in

  4. I am confused by the “UTC date time” – that does not seem to relate to the event.
If it was possible to select events to include – like death of a parent then it could be really helpfull for assessing factors that might have contributed to somebody losing the plot…

  5. I like the presentation of the data but really wanted included an adjacent  timeline which could be shown against corresponding events in social history that would come from a static text file but maintained by the user. Is there anything being considered please?

Also multiple members of the same family would be interesting!
