The current Ancestral Sources Launcher plugin combines the functions of the original Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin (which will be withdrawn from the Plugin Store) and version 1 of the Ancestral Sources Launcher plugin.
It provides a single optional plugin to support launching the separate Ancestral Sources application from within Family Historian with the subject individual and current project pre-loaded.
Plugin operation is largely invisible to the user, as it interacts only when it needs to ask a specific question or resolve an ambiguity.
AS Version Selection
Unlike earlier versions of the two original plugins, version 2 onwards of Ancestral Sources Launcher supports multiple instances of Ancestral Sources on the same PC. These are typically a version installed directly from a previously downloaded installation file, and a “Store” version obtained from the Microsoft Store.
If multiple versions of Ancestral Sources are detected when the plugin starts, it presents the following selection menu:
Select the required version from the displayed alternatives. If enabling “Remember this selection” is ticked, subsequent runs of the plugin open that version of Ancestral Sources automatically without showing this menu. If you wish to change to the alternative version, hold down either shift key when starting the plugin to display the selection menu.
Note that operation with multiple versions of Ancestral Sources is not recommended for general use, as Ancestral Sources configuration data may not be compatible between the two versions. It is intended primarily for advanced users to support short-term beta-testing of new versions of the application.
