This plugin provides a tool for entering Caste for an individual, and cascading it automatically to their descendants through the male line. Caste can also be entered for a female individual, but this is not cascaded to any other person.
Caste is inherited according to the following rules:
- All children inherit the Caste of their birth father. If the parental relationship is of any other type (adopted, foster, step, etc), Caste is not inherited.
- Sons take their birth father’s Caste, and this is inherited by all of their children.
- Daughters take their birth father’s Caste, but this is not inherited by their children.
The plugin also enables changes of entered Caste due to data correction or deletion of Caste to be cascaded down the generations according to the above rules.
Once processing is completed, the plugin reports the number of Individual Records updated.
This plugin is written with extensive commentary and notes included in the plugin script, as it is designed to be particularly accessible by new and inexperienced authors to illustrate some of the fundamental concepts involved in writing a basic Family Historian plugin.
