If the Smart Geocoding Set Preference Option is ticked, the various codes and abbreviations below are translated before sending to the Google Maps Geocoder. They are only recognised as a comma-separated part of a location. They are not case sensitive.
e.g. Exmouth, WA, AUS or Surrey, BC, CAN or Irvine, AYR, UK or Banbury, Oxon, GBR or Bedford, TX, USA.
This first set is applied to all locations but the later regional codes may override them:
- ISO 3166-1 Alpha-3 Country Codes from Wikipedia ISO 3166-1 Alpha-3.
e.g. AUS or CAN or GBR or USA. - Canadian Province Abbreviations from Postal Abbreviations for Provinces and Territories in Canada.
e.g. BC or NT or ON or QC. - U.S. Postal Service State Abbreviations from List of U.S. State Abbreviations for USPS.
e.g. CA or DC or IA or NY or TX or WA or WN.
These are only applied if the location starts or ends with Canada or CAN or United States or USA or when the Region Bias Code is ca Canada or us United States:
- NT Northwest Territories.
- WA Washington State.
These are only applied if the location starts or ends with Australia or AUS or when the Region Bias Code is au Australia:
- Australian State Postal Abbreviations from States and Territories of Australia.
e.g. ACT or JBT or NSW or NT or QLD or SA or TAS or VIC or WA.
These are only applied if the location starts or ends with a British Isles country or when the Region Bias Code is uk United Kingdom:
- Chapman Codes from Chapman Codes for UK & Eire Counties.
e.g. AYR or BRK or DEV or FER or GLA or LIN or MAY or PER or SOM.
Some Chapman Codes may not plot entirely accurately as their old place names have no modern equivalent in the Google Maps Geocoder. - UK Postal County Abbreviations from Postal Counties of the United Kingdom.
e.g. Glos or Hants or Oxon or Salop or Warks. - All forms of Yorkshire such as Yorkshire East Riding or North Yorkshire are translated to Yorkshire, England that is better recognised by the Google Maps Geocoder.
