Introduction
Geocoding determines the Latitude & Longitude of each Fact location as defined by its Place &/or Address fields.
Mapping displays the Fact details at its Latitude & Longitude on the map pane in the plugin or on a browser web page.
See the Set Preference Options tab for details of all the associated settings.
Geocoding Options
The plugin can hold the Latitude & Longitude locations in its own Plugin Data folder or in records of the host Project.
It can synchronise with the Place records and Map Window of the Project and its Latitude & Longitude values.
The plugin allows Latitude & Longitude plot locations to be entered or adjusted manually via its map pane.
Automatic geocoding in the plugin uses online services from Bing Maps, Geoapify, or Google Maps.
Each service requires an API Key that is obtained as explained below.
Mapping Options
By default, the plugin uses the free Leaflet Maps mode to display plots on its map pane or browser web pages.
It can also use Bing Maps to display plots on its map pane or web pages, and Google Maps to display them on web pages.
You interact with the maps to choose such as street or satellite displays and adjust the pan & zoom, etc.
Bing Maps and Google Maps both require an API Key that is obtained as explained below.
API Keys
First-time users will be offered the API Key Required options. Click Help & Advice to obtain this help page.
It is possible to run the plugin without any of the API Keys. All the Latitude & Longitude values can be synchronised with the Project Place records or manually plotted and the plots displayed using the free Leaflet Maps mode.
Otherwise, use one or other of the following guides to obtain a free Account and API Key for each online service desired.
- Bing Maps API Key ~ needs a free Microsoft Account;
- Geoapify API Key ~ works with a free Google Account or Facebook Account;
- Google Maps API Key ~ needs a free Google Account and a credit/debit card that should never be charged;
